Using Bulk Flowers

We are so excited to announce we are offering bulk flower packages for weddings this year! This is new for us at Bitterroot Studio, and we are so pumped for the new opportunity this will provide our couples. By purchasing bulk flowers through us you are able to get the colors and varieties you’d get from a full-service wedding, but at a much lower price point. This option is perfect for our crafty DIY brides!

Using Bulk Flowers

Bulk flowers are GREAT for so many reasons! First, they save you money on cost of labor, which is great for our “ballin’ on a budget” brides. Like I mentioned above, ordering through us means you can get the same great varieties we use, which you often can’t find in stores!

Second, there is so much creative freedom in using bulk flowers! You have the ability to do whatever you want. You can make bouquets, centerpieces and anything else your heart desires. AND you can make them completely unique to you. If you want to design centerpieces in your mom’s collection of antique vases, that’s totally doable. If you want a wild, crazy, totally unique bouquet, you can make that.

Things to Remember

Bulk flowers, while fun and inexpensive can also be inconvenient for some people. First, flowers must be kept cold and ordered fresh! Meaning you will be taking on more work in the days before your wedding. This can be a totally fun way to get your bridesmaids together before the wedding, but it can also add a lot more stress! Don’t take it on if you’re not certain you can handle it!

Second, some couples want really elaborate and unique floral designs that might be difficult and time consuming for you to create! Youtube and Pinterest are AMAZING resources for tips and tricks but practice makes perfect! If you want something really elaborate and don’t want to spend hours before your wedding practicing, DIY might not be for you.

Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips and tricks to get you started with bulk flowers!

First, order from someone reputable! You want to make sure you are getting the highest quality flowers you can. You wouldn’t them to show up dead or not what you ordered.

Second, prep them right away! If you order from us, our team of ladies will have done most of the work but if not you will need to do some prep. You will need to remove most of the leaves from the stems. You will also want to make sure to pluck any brown or bruised petals. Most importantly, make sure to get them in cool water right away.

Flowers also need to be kept cool. You should store them in a cool place, either a fridge, basement or cool garage. They should be kept at at least 42 degrees, but NO colder! You also won’t want them to get too warm.

When you’re ready to start designing, it’s important to gather all of your materials. Like I mentioned above, Pinterest and Youtube are great resources for getting started. But don’t be afraid to have fun with it either! It’s your wedding, and ultimately you don’t need to follow any tutorials as long as you are happy with how your flowers look.

Happy Designing

For any couples who might not want to DIY, but still don’t want anything too elaborate or fancy, or maybe you’re on a tight budget, we are also going to be offering some predesigned floral packages! Stay tuned for more info about this on our blog in the coming weeks!

Hello! I’d like to learn more about ordering bulk flowers for our wedding next year. Would important pieces like my bouquet, corsages, and a few boutonnieres be able to be made by your team? Do you provide consultation for flowers best for a particular season or would I need to have a list of everything I want? Just looking to learn more about the process and pricing.

    • Sabia says:

      Hi Anne!
Short answer is yes, we’d be able to make some pieces and provide bulk flowers for anything you want to DIY 🙂 We’re also able to help you pick out flowers based on the time of year. I’m going to pass your info along to our office manager and she can email over some more info!
